Inmates at Cork Prison transferred to the new facility today
A large security operation is in place for the transfer of the 160 prisoners
A large security operation has been mounted to allow the transfer of 160 inmates at Cork Prison to the new facility on Rathmore Road
The comprehensive plan was drawn up by the Irish Prison Service and is being implemented in conjunction with gardaí.
The operation may lead to the closure of some roads as prison vehicles are being used to transport prisoners directly into the new facility.
The €40 million purpose built development, brings an end to the highly controversial ‘slopping out’ system for prisoners
Speaking to RedFM News Prison Governor Pat Dawson says the new facility will also pilot a new tiered visitor system
