INMO Say Billions Spent Hiring Agency Staff Could Be Used To Tackle Recruitment Crisis
The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation say the billions spent hiring agency staff could have been used to tackle the recruitment and retention crisis in the health service.
The union were speaking after new figures obtained by Sinn Fein revealed the HSE spent €2.8 million on agency staff at Cork University Hospital in the first 5 months of the year.
Over €2.1 billion has been spend on temporary agency staff since 2011.
Sinn Fein have criticised the figure and say spending billions on temporary agency staff rather than directly employed staff is financially crippling the health service.
Speaking to RedFM News, Liam Conway from the INMO says no one is taking responsibility for amount spent on agency staff
