Inquest into death of Cork man returns verdict

The inquest into the death of a Cork man who went missing a few days before Christmas last year, has returned a verdict of accidental death.

The court heard how Diarmuid Twomey died from inhaling hydrogen sulphide after he accidentally fell into a slurry tank at Rahanisky in Whitechurch.

The father of two was returning to his home in Carrignavar from a night out in the early hours of December the 20th, when he went missing.

A search involving Gardai, Civil Defence, the Coast Guard and volunteers was launched and Mr Twomey remains were found on January the 28th when Farmer Philip McAuliffe drained a slurry tank on his farm.

Coroner Frank O'Connell said it was unclear how he had entered the slurry tank, but was satisfied it was accidental.

He extended his sympathy to Mr Twomey's partner, Ciara Byrne and family on their loss.
