Investigation launched after fire crew comes under attack in Mayfield

The incident happened shortly after 11 o'clock last night.
Gardaí have launched an investigation after a fire engine was attacked in Avonmore Park in Mayfield overnight.
The incident happened shortly after 11 o'clock when the fire service was called to deal with rubbish and wheely bins which had been set on fire
It's understood when the fire service arrived a gang of youths began pelting them with stones and smashed the window of the fire engine in the process.
The fire crew had to withdraw from the scene until back up from the gardaí arrived. The gang dispersed and the fire was put out.
There are no reports of any injuries however the incident has sparked fears of further anti-social behaviour on Bonfire night which is taking place this Thursday.
Speaking to RedFM News Cork Community Garda Sergeant John O'Connor says there will be extra gardaí on the streets on Bonfire Night and they'll be liasing with the fire service:
