Investigation launched after taxi driver held at knife point in Cork

The incident happened in the early hours of Christmas morning on College Road.

A taxi driver Leeside who was threatened at knife point and robbed of around €500 over Christmas says he thought he was going to die.

Suleman Ahmed picked up a passenger in the early hours of Christmas morning in the city centre and agree to take him to College Road.

When the taxi driver, who has been living in Cork for the past six years, reached the destination the passenger held a knife to his throat and demanded all the cash on board.

Gardaí have launched an investigation and are examining CCTV footage.

It's the latest attack on a taxi driver in the city and follows a similar attack at the end of 2014 on taxi drive John Forde in Ballyvolane and an assault on 58-year-old taxi driver John Constant in the Glounthaune area last March.

Suleman described his attacker on the Neil Prendeville Show and says he threatened to kill him if he spoke out about the incident:
