Investigation launched following damage to Youghal water meters

Gardaí are investigating damage to two water meters in Youghal on Monday night. Irish Water staff who had covered over unfinished works around the meters which had been installed in the Tallow St area returned to find them damaged. According to today's Irish Exainer gardaí who were in attendance are studying nearby CCTV footage as part of their investigations. Opposition to the installation of meters in the town has been high and a group of anti-water meter protestors were out in force yesterday morning calling for water charges to be abolished. A march is planned in the town on Saturday and will leave from Market Square at 1pm. It follows a number of other protests across Cork and a demonstration last Saturday in the the city centre which attracted an estimated 3,000 people.
