Investigations underway after death of West Cork based fisherman
Two separate investigations have been launched into the death of an Egyptian fisherman on board a trawler which fishes out of Baltimore.
Both the Marine Casualty Investigation Board and An Garda Siochana have begun separate investigations after the death of the 53-year-old in an accident on board the trawler, Endurance.
The incident happened Tuesday night when the man suffered crush injuries while the trawler was hauling its nets west of Loop Head in Co Clare.
The skipper raised the alarm but the fisherman died on board the vessel.
A post mortem is due to take place at Cork University Hospital later while Gardai say that they are treating his death as a tragic accident.
Speaking to RedFM News Ken Fleming from the International Transport Workers Federation says the Irish authorities will do what they can to make sure his body is returned to his family in Egypt as soon as possible:
