Ireland's drugs laws are to be reviewed

The review could see the decriminalisation of possession of drugs for personal use

The review is part of a landmark new National Drugs Strategy which aims to treat drug users as a health issue, not a criminal one.

Laws in other countries are to be reviewed, with recommendations for the future of Ireland's drug possession laws due in 12 months.

Junior minister Catherine Byrne says having a criminal record stops someone rebuilding their life even when they get clean.
