Irish Prison Service says changes have been made in immediate aftermath of Cork prisoner lockout

Last March an inmate was locked outside the prison, in the exercise yard, overnight.

The Irish Prison Service has confirmed to RedFM News that in the immediate aftermath of an incident where a prisoner was locked out of Cork's newest prison the governor has made changes to standard procedure to ensure that a repeat of the situation does not happen.

Last March an inmate was locked outside the prison, in the exercise yard, overnight and wasn't missed until a headcount the following day.

The prisoner in question Martin McDonagh has since spoken out about the incident on the Neil Prendeville Show on Cork's RedFM and says he has initiated legal proceedings however the Irish Prison Service say they cannot comment on the matter.

Questions have been raised about why the inmate wasn't spotted in the exercise yard as the state of the art facility has more than 300 CCTV cameras however the Irish Prison Service say they expect the investigation which was launched after the incident to be concluded in less than two weeks time.

RedFM News toured the facility at the beginning of the year and Governor Pat Dawson told us that the chances of an inmate escaping are low:
