Issue of Derelict Buildings needs to be addressed

A Cork County Councillor has admitted that both Cork City and County Council need to be stronger on the issue of derelict buildings.
It follows a recent fire at the historic Vernon Mount House which caused extensive damage to the 18th century unoccupied house.
A number of other buildings Leeside have also come under the spotlight including the former hotel on Morrison’s Island after debris fell from its second floor narrowly missing a pedestrian.
Concern has also been expressed about the effect of a 50% rates reduction for buildings that are no longer in use.
Speaking on the Neil Prendeville Show on Cork's RedFM County Councillor Ger Keohane says he accepts that a "use or lose it" policy is needed:
