Justice Plan 2021 to be published today

A plan to reduce the high cost of taking legal action is being proposed by the Justice Minister this morning.

The Justice Plan 2021 contains over 200 actions to be completed within the next 12 months.

New guidelines on what an individual can expect certain legal actions to cost will be independently drawn up.

Minister Helen McEntee says she will examine whether the guidelines should be binding.

"There are those who feel that if they're not binding that this will still work, that this will still bring down the legal costs, however there are those who still feel we need to make these binding.

"What I'm going to do is introduce guidelines which are not binding, but Im going to also explore if we can make them binding and how that might work."
