Landlords Near UCC Again Urged Not To Let Their Properties For Summer Parties

Residents say they are aware of a strong demands for summer lets in the area and they're concerned they will face another Summer of discontent

Residents living in the vicinity of UCC have again appealed to landlords in the area not to rent out their properties for Summer Parties

Landlords say there continues to be strong demand among students and young people requesting accommodation for the Summer months and this has prompted concern among the Magazine Road residents association who say they're fearful of another summer of anti-social behaviour by those renting out empty college houses.

The organisation held a series of protests last year after a spate of house parties in the area which they say led to sleepless nights for residents in the midst of a pandemic.

Speaking to RedFM News Chairperson of the residents association Catherine Clancy has appealed to landlords not to let out their houses to students for the summer months, unless it is for essential purposes

"We had a real concern last summer around the house parties and houses specifically left by landlords during the summer months when people had no essential reason to be here. The same applies for the months ahead, you know, we are told to stay at home we are told to abide by the COVID-19 regulations. We're calling on landlords, not to let out these houses to people who are not here for essential work or essential services, but to actually adhere by the guidelines"
