Large Number Of Missed Abnormalities Uncovered In Review Of Smear Test Results

Large numbers of previously missed abnormalities have been uncovered in a major review of smear test results, meaning some cancers could have been prevented.

The review led by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in the UK is the largest of its kind since cervical cancer screening began in Ireland.

According to the Irish Times, in the review of the slides of more than 1000 women, hundreds of different results from the original finding were discovered after re-examination.
