A Cork anti-water charges protester says the level of opposition in Cork has captured the imagination of many Leesiders who hadn't considered boycotting that charge.
A renewed resistance emerged this week when four Cork housing estates anticipating the arrival of Irish Water mounted protests against the fee.
Gardaí were called to Ard Cashel housing estate in Watergrasshill this week where residents stood over stop-cock valves outside their property to ensure that Irish Water staff could not carry out metering.
Elsewhere rota systems have been formed in Leesdale and Curraheen housing estates where residents have assembled blockades at the entrance.
