Locals in Whitegate call for safer road conditions

It's understood plans by the council had been shelved in recent years.

Residents of an East Cork village have expressed concerns over the health and safety of their streets.

The comments come from locals in Whitegate who say there are up to 300 trucks travelling through the town daily as it's next to the oil refinery but it's unsafe for road users due to poor layout, careless parking and inadequate road markings.

It's understood plans by the council to address some of these concerns including measures like road realignment, resurfacing and traffic claiming were shelved during the economic downturn.

Speaking to RedFM News, Mayor of Whitegate Martin Murray says it's time the plans are implemented before there is a serious accident.
