Long-term homelessness on the rise in Cork

This year so far 200 people are sleeping rough on Cork streets

Cork Simon says long term homelessness is on the rise Leeside. 

The charity which released its annual report this week, says there's been a 25% increase in long term homelessness, with some requIring an emergency bed for six months or more.

The report also revealed that the emergency shelter is operating beyond capacity, with no signs of improvement in 2016.

This year so far 200 people are sleeping rough on Cork streets. 

Speaking to RedFM News Paul Sheehan from Cork Simon says, people are struggling to access private rental accommodation and as a result, the average stay at the emergency shelter is getting longer.
