Lord Mayor Confident Events Centre Will Go Ahead
The Lord Mayor says he's very confident that the Events Centre will go ahead.
It follows mounting speculation about the future of the project as developers await a response on a request for an additional €18 million in state funding.
The government have already committed €20 million in public funding to the project and the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform is now assessing the request.
Minister Simon Coveney has warned of the possibility that the money might not be sanctioned unless the 6,000 seat venue represents value for money and has also said the Government will not write a blank cheque for the developers.
