Lord Mayor Says Cork Needs A Viable Events Centre

BAM say they won't be covering the €6 million required in contingency costs for the project

Cork city needs a viable Events Centre and it's imperative that the extra funding request is met.

That's according to the City's Lord Mayor Cllr Des Cahill who was speaking after it emerged that the developers of the stalled Events Centre won't be covering the €6 million required in contingency costs for the project.

In total developers are seeking an extra €18 million in state aid as costs to bring the Centre to fruition continue to rise due to a change in the internal design plan.

In February City Councillors were told that costs had risen by €12 million and a €6 million contingency would also be required, and BAM  has now made it clear that they will not be covering the contingency costs
