Low Levels Of Recruitment In Defence Forces Blamed On Low Pay

The Defence Forces are haemorrhaging staff because of low rates of pay.
That's according to the WPDF a group representing the Wives and Partners of serving members who say 68 members of the Defence Forces are leaving each month.
The approved strength of the Defence Force is 9,500 but new figures show the current number has fallen to 9,044 - despite a recruitment campaign in 2016.
The WPDF group say families across Cork are facing extreme hardship as a result of the low wages paid to members of the Defence Forces.
Shelley Cotter's husband and son are both in the navy and she told RedFM News that the rate of pay is the main reason behind the failure of the recent recruitment drive.
