Lusitania Wreck Could Hold Art Worth Over €300 Million

Almost 1,2000 passengers died when the ship was torpedoed by a German submarine off the coast of Kinsale during World War One.

The art by painters like Monet, Rembrant, and Rubens was owned by Cork art dealer Hugh Lane and is stored in lead tubes, which its hoped were not damaged when the ship sank 104 years ago.

The committee heard that around 24 paintings could be retrieved during the next ten years.
