Mahon and the City's Northside have both ranked in the bottom 5 of the cleanest towns and cities in Ireland.

That's according to the latest litter survey by business group Irish Business Against Litter, which ranked the areas as 36th and 37th respectively out of 40. 

Cork City Centre faired better, ranking 19th, and being described as 'clean to European norms'.

Kilkenny has come out on top, for the 5th time, followed by Athlone and Killarney.

For the first time in three years, one area was deemed a 'litter blackspot', with Ballymun in Dublin getting one of the lowest scores since the league tables began 17 years ago.
