Major traffic plan swings into operation as thousands descend on Fota

People traveling to the Irish Open today are being urged to use public transport. 100,000 spectators are expected to visit the region over the course of the five day tournament and as a result major traffic restrictions will be in place. Gardaí will be aided by stewards to direct traffic traveling to the resort and the cross-river ferry in Cobh is preparing to run two vessels if necessary. Organiser say car parks on site have capacity for 8,000 vehicles but people are being encourgaed to make use of the train service.
