Man due in court over weekend shooting in the city

The incident wounded a 21-year-old woman who remains in hospital.

A 29-year-old man is due in court today in connection with the shooting of a young woman in a gun attack on a house on the northside of the city at the weekend.

The man who was arrested in the early hours of Sunday morning by gardai investigating the shooting of Ciara Sheehan in Hollywood Estate will be charged with three firearms offences.

Gardai obtained directions from the DPP late last night to charge the man, who is from Shanakiel, and bring him before Cork District Court this morning.

Meanwhile gardai are this morning set to resume questioning a man in his 60s, also from the Shanakiel area, who was arrested in Gurranabraher at around 5 o'clock yesterday evening.

His car was also seized for a forensic examination.

The man's arrest is the third in the garda investigation into the shooting of 21 year old Ms Sheehan who was shot in the neck while visiting her boyfriend's home in Hollywood Estate on Sunday morning.
