Man jailed for tying up and robbing prostitute in Cork

The 34-year-old man has been jailed for eight years.

A man who tied up and robbed a Russiain prostitute in a city centre hotel has been jailed for eight years.

The 34-year-old Lithanian national, falsely imprisoned the woman who was working alone from a room in the Metropole Hotel, put her into a bath with a towel over her head as he along with an accomplice robbed her of €4,000 in cash and other items.

It comes after Cork was identified as the 'capital of the Irish sex industry' by one of the country’s most notorious websites advertising sex for sale.

Speaking on the Neil Prendeville Show Mary Crilly of Sexual Violence Centre Cork says women who are working in this industry are easy targets for this type of abuse.
