Cork Irish Defence Forces Veteran says at least eight Cork veterans are without a roof over their heads
That's according to the Organisation of National Ex-Service Personnel who say many veterans struggle with PTSD and addiction
That's Cork man and Defence Forces veteran Diarmuid Higgins who says these are the types of encounters that Irish veterans in the past had to deal with, without any follow up support and an attuite of "Be A Man".
The chairman of the southern branch of ONE says that while that the culture has drastically changed for the better in recent times, many veterans from this era are still trying to deal with what they have seen on the job and are battling issues such as PTSD, and addiction.
At least eight veterans of the Irish Defence Forces are on the streets of Cork at the moment with no roof over their heads.
It's hoped a new hostel and Defence Forces veteran support centre procured by ONE in Cobh due to open later this year will be able to provide the kind of specialised support needed for the veterans who have found themselves unable to cope or without a home.
Speaking to RedFM News Diarmuid Higgins of ONE says although the supports are there for current members of the Defence Forces there are so many veterans who were forgotten about and they need help:
