Mercy Emergency Department needs adequate resources
It's been claimed that the Emergency Department at the Mercy University Hospital is chronically under-resourced.
The comments from Sinn Fein TD Jonathan O'Brien follow the implementation of the hospitals' escalation policy yesterday due to a surge in patients presenting at the ED unit.
This is the second time in a week that management at the Mercy Hospital issued a warning about the surge in activity at the hospitals' emergency department.
Patients were urged to contact the Mercy Urgent Care Centre however Deputy O'Brien says that centre is only open until 6pm and can only offer care for minor injuries.
He says it's time the HSE provided staff at the Mercy with adequate resources to treat those in need rather than advising them to go elsewhere.
Speaking to RedFM News Consultant in Emergency Medicine at the Mercy Dr Chris Luke says the rising trend in overcrowding at the A&E unit is worrying
