Midnight meeting to discuss the Council merger

A motion will be discussed which could compel the Chief Executive of the Council, Ann Doherty to launch a High Court injunction


A special meeting of Cork City Council is set to take place at midnight tonight. 

It will discuss a motion which could compel the Chief Executive of the Council, Ann Doherty to launch a High Court injunction against the merger of Cork city and county councils. 

The meeting will be held at 1 minute past 12 on Tuesday morning hours before the Enviornment Minister Alan Kelly is scheduled to bring the merger plan to Cabinet

Recent developments in the merger debate saw Labour TD Ciarán Lynch describe the process as rushed and in an open letter to the citizens of Cork the City's Lord Mayor Cllr Chris O'Leary says he has concerns around the speed in which the Minister stated his support for the reviewto merge the councils... 

However, speaking to RedFM News, Minister Alan Kelly says an amalgamation is the way forward for Cork:
