Migrant Crisis Discussed In Brussels Today
The migrant crisis in the Mediterranean will be high on the agenda as Foreign Affairs Ministers, including Simon Coveney meet in Brussels today.
Minister Coveney says he'll formally tell the EU Foreign Affairs Council about Ireland's decision to join Operation Sophia.
The decision means the Defence Forces will take part in EU military actions to combat human trafficking in the Mediterranean.
Up to now the Irish naval service has been participating only in humanitarian missions to save the lives of people trying to make the crossing to Europe.
