Minister Considers Bedsits In Effort To Tackle Homelessness
Bedsits may be on the way back as the Housing Minister battles a shortage of homes.
Eoghan Murphy thinks the extra accommodation could help sort the crisis along with other moves such as doubling the tax on vacant properties in rent pressure zones.
Recent figures have shown the number of homeless adults in Cork has reached 295 in the past 12 months an increase of 38.5%.
Bedsits were banned several years ago over fears that they provided substandard living conditions.
But Junior Minister Damien English says they could be improved:
