Minister defends Guidance Counsellor cuts
The Minister for Education has been defending the controversial abolition of ex-quota guidance counselling allocations. Guidance counsellors have been campaigning to get the cuts reversed however Ruairí Quinn says it's a necessary step to preserve the pupil-teacher ratios. It comes as delegates at the Teachers’ Union of Ireland conference in Kilkenny this week condemned the decision citing a recent survey which revealed that guidance teachers had 40% less time to spend on one-on-one meetings with students.
