Minister for Housing announces extra social housing for Cork
The Minister for Housing says over 400 social houses will come under construction in Cork in the next five months.
This lunchtime Taoiseach Enda Kenny and Minister Simon Coveney launched the Government's plans to tackle the homeless crisis which are part of the new Rebuilding Ireland strategy which was announced during the summer.
The plans include an increase in the amount of social housing available across Cork city and county to accommodate families who have been pushed into homelessness because of rising rent prices.
Last month Cork's Simon community revealed an average of 17 people a night are sleeping rough in the city
Speaking to RedFM News Minister Coveney says these extra social houses will be under the management of Cork City Council:
