Minister Simon Coveney partakes in Lusitania commemorations
The ship sank of the coast of Cork in 1915.
At the Old Head of Kinsale Defence Minister Simon Coveney laid a wreath at 2.10pm to mark the time the Lusitania was struck by a torpedo.
This evening he's attending the re-enactment of the 1915 Inquest in Kinsale as part of the Lusitania Cork 100 commemorations.
Earlier, the community of Courtmacsherry also stopped to remember the 1,198 people who lost their lives on this day 100 years ago and to pay tribute to those who took part in the rescue operation.
Balloons were released from 12 schools along the coast from Rosscarbery to Clonakilty to Ballinadee - each one bearing the name of a Lusitania victim.
