More than one means of payment advised for those travelling to Greece

The advice comes from the Department of Foreign Affairs.

Tourists travelling from Ireland to Greece are being advised to take more than one means of payment with them.

Holidaymakers aren't affected by the ATM withdrawal limits in place, however the Department of Foreign Affairs is reminding people that banking services including credit card processing or ATM servicing could be limited at short notice.

Officials say people should have enough money to cover emergencies or delays while taking appropriate security precautions.

Developments in Greece are being monitored and contingency plans are in place to help people if necessary, however there's been no increase in requests for assistance from the Irish embassy in Athens.
