Murder Victim's Family Hit Out As Their Daughter's Killer Is Granted Escorted Day Releases From Prison

The family of a 19 year old Cork murder victim has hit out after it was revealed that the man responsible for their daughter's death has been granted escorted day releases from prison.... 

Nichola Sweeney was stabbed to death and her best friend Sinead O'Leary was seriously injured on the 27th of April 2002 when 19 year old Peter Whelan broke into the Sweeney house and attacked the two young women as they got ready for a night out

In an RTE Prime Time documentary to be aired tonight, both the Sweeney and O'Leary families speak of their shock at hearing that Whelan has been out of prison on escorted day release without their knowledge.
