New initiative to try to tackle mobile phone theft

2.5 million euro worth of mobile phones were stolen in 2016 according to new figures from Gardaí.
The statistics from the Garda Síochána Analysis Service also show two-thirds of all thefts and robberies involve mobiles being stolen - while three in four victims of phone theft are aged between 18 and 39.
The figures are being released as part of a new - Streetwise - campaign encouraging us to take more care of our personal belongings and to plan nights out.
