New scheme protects Cork families from homelessness

The initiative was launched in January of this year.
Over 400 families have been protected from homelessness in Cork City so far this year following a new scheme which was introduced in January.
The Tenancy Protection Service, which was was set up to curb the amount of families becoming homeless, has received over 600 calls to date.
Of these cases over 400 were at risk of becoming homeless but the service says for the moment they have been able to protect them.
Speaking to RedFM News regional manager of Threshold in Cork Niall Horgan says without intervention many of these cases would be homeless which is a poor sign of the market in Cork.
