New Student Accommodation For Cork Confirmed

A €75 million student accommodation complex in the city has been given the green light.
According to today's Evening Echo planning permission has been granted for the development which is planned on the site of a former Esso Station on Western Road between the River Lee Hotel and UCC.
UK development firm Ziggurat, which plans to create an additional 1,000 student beds in the city over the next four years is behind the project which will create an extra 205 student beds.
Locals had raised objections to the development amid fears of noise pollution and anti-social behaviour however developers hope the complex will alleviate some of the problems being presented by housing shortages in the city.
The Union of Students in Ireland recently called on people who have a spare room to consider renting it to students after a survey found that there's 40% less rental space available than this time last year.
