New wastewater plant officially opened in Shanbally today

Communities all across Cork Harbour will benefit from cleaner water from today.

That's according to Irish Water, who commenced operations on the €117 million euro Cork Lower Harbour Main Drainage Project this morning.

50% of the raw sewage from Carrigaline, Crosshaven and Shanbally, that previously flowed into the harbour is now being treated before being safely discharged out to sea.

The plant was officially opened this morning at Shanbally by Minister Simon Coveney.
