Newborn Baby Of Mother Who Passed Away In CUMH Has Also Died

A newborn baby boy found in a critical condition underneath his mother's body at Cork University Maternity Hospital has died.
Staff discovered mother of three Margaret Downey, who was originally from Killmallock Co. Limerick, dead on the floor of her hospital room on Monday morning.
Her newborn son was found underneath her body in a serious condition.
The incident is being treated as a tragic accident- its believed the 36 year old suffered a medical episode that caused her to fall out of bed.
The South South-West Hospital Group confirmed an investigation is underway and say their priority is supporting the woman and baby's family following the tragic incident.
