Nun Fined €500 And Ordered To Pay Another €500 In Costs At Skibbereen District Court

Sr Irene Gibson had previously been convicted of a breach of planning laws when setting up a hermitage at Corrin South in Leap

Jamie O'Hara has this report for RedFM News:

"Today's sitting of Skibbereen District Court heard that while Sr Gibson had removed a number of pod-like structures from the hermitage in Leap following a hearing in September last year, four pods, a storage container and a fence had remained on the site.

The court heard that council officials had visited the site yesterday and that all the pods and the storage container has been removed, leaving only the fence on the site.

Judge James McNulty said he was happy for nature to take it's course and cover the remaining fence and said he believed that a fine of €500 and costs of €500 towards Cork County Council's costs was appropriate.

Sr Gibson - who is part of the The Carmelite Sisters of the Holy Face of Jesus- has until July 27th to pay the fine and costs.

The Diocese of Cork and Ross says Sr Gibson does not belong to any community connected to the Catholic Church in Ireland.
