Nurse who spoke out about Cork psych unit cleared to return to work

A mental health nurse who was placed off duty after speaking out on the Neil Prendeville Show about his concerns regarding a new psychiatric unit in the CUH has been cleared by the HSE to return to work. Des McSweeney went public about the dispute with the HSE over the new €15m acute psychiatric unit which nurses have refused to transfer to over concerns about staffing levels and layout. The Psychiatric Nurses Association threatened to withdraw from talks aimed at resolving the row if Des was not allowed to return to work. He has since been cleared by the HSE to go back to work however he says his trust in the service has been badly damaged and AUDIO: Speaking on the Neil Prendeville Show last week he said the HSE's focus should be on resolving the issue, not on him.
