Nurses At Cork University Hospital Stage Lunchtime Protest
They're calling for additional funding to cope with increased patient numbers during the winter
Nurses and midwives are staging a lunchtime protest at Cork University Hospital to highlight the need for additional funding to cope with increased patient numbers during the winter.
The protest follows the HSE's admission that it does not have a plan to deal with the seasonal surge of patients presenting at the hospital.
The HSE have also said that while they have funding for 169 vacant emergency department nursing positions, they have been unable to fill the roles.
Trolley watch figures released this morning show that CUH has the highest number of people being treated on trollies in the country today with 52 people in overflow wards and lying on trollies in corridors in the hospital this morning
Speaking to RedFM News this afternoon at CUH, staff nurse Jean O'Connell says nurses and midwives are very concerned about the situation
