OPW says it's examining all options for Cork's flood relief scheme
The OPW say they're fully considering every submission made to them on the Lower Lee Flood Relief Scheme including a tidal barrage.
The Save Cork City campaign have been leading calls for the structure to be put in place instead of the current proposals which they say will affect the historic fabric of the city with its focus on embankments and quay walls.
The OPW has previously stated that a tidal barrage would cost at least €450 million which is far in excess of the budget for the €150 million plan.
Responses are currently being prepared by the OPW to over 1,250 submissions on the plans and it's hoped that process will be completed within the next 6-8 weeks.
OPW engineer Ezra McManamon has been telling RedFM News about some of the factors they're encountering in relation to suggestions about the tidal barrage:
