O'Riordan hopeful UCC can pave way for students with disabilities

A leading Cork disability campaigner says she hopes that UCC will pave the way for those with disabilities who want to pursue third level education. Joanne O'Riordan who is currently studying criminology at the Cork university says the facilities and accomodation at the college have enabled her to live a regular student life. It comes after a recent report revealed a lack of appropriate training courses for people with intellectual disabilities and a drop in the number of deaf or hearing impaired students enrolling in college. It was also revealed that students with disabilities are hugely under-represented in post-graduate courses and those with multiple disabilities are even less likely to progress to that level of study. Speaking to RedFM News Joanne says that the support available to her in UCC should be available in every college: [CLIP]
