Oscar Pistorius sentenced to six years in prison

The athlete Oscar Pistorius has been sentenced to six years in prison for murdering his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, on Valentine's Day in 2013.

The sentence was handed down to the 29 year old, after his conviction was upgraded.

The former Olympian had already served a year in jail for the charge of culpable homicide.

It's believed his six year sentence will be appealed by the prosecution before the end of the day, as the minimum sentence for murder in South Africa is 15 years.
