Over 2,000 offers of social housing refused

The figures come from 30 of the local authorities nationwide.
2,000 offers of social housing were turned down nationwide last year - 341 of which were in Cork.
Cork City Council saw 198 offers refused in 2014 while Cork County Council had 143 turned down last year.
Of the refusals in the county, 16 were because of alleged anti-social behaviour in the area while in one case, a man had died at the house and there was no mass said which the applicant was superstitious about.
However, the main reasons nationwide were the location of the premises in terms of applicant preference or that the property was unsuitable in size.
Speaking to RedFM News, campaigner for the homeless Father Peter McVerry says the majority of people's reasons for refusal are likely to be valid ones:
