Opel Ireland is urging owners of Opel or Vauxhall Zafira's made between 2005 and 2014 to contact their dealer for a free check..
One of the Zafira B models caught fire in Passage West yesterday and there have been over 100 similar incidents reported in the UK.
Opel is advising listeners that if they notice any unusual characteristics with the heating and ventilation system (for example a squeaking noise from the dashboard) that they should contact their Opel dealer for a free vehicle inspection.
A 2007 registered Opel Zafira was in a line of traffic waiting to board the Cross River Ferry yesterday when the fire broke out in the dashboard area.
The driver managed to escape uninjured but the front of the car was engulfed in flames and was destroyed..
