Partial Demolition Of Douglas Village Shopping Centre Car Park Expected To Begin This Week

The last of the undamaged cars in the car park were removed over the weekend
The fire at the shopping centre 10 days ago, which broke out on level one of the multi-storey car park, caused significant damage and has prompted fears for the 30 businesses and 400 employees directly impacted by the fire
Services to the centre are currently being cut and internal work to facilitate the partial demolition of the damaged car park is underway as the floors and access ramps were compromised in the fire
Record store Music Zone has already had to let two of their staff go while Leonards Hair & Beauty has relocated to a temporary space on Maryborough Hill
Last week traders at the centre met with the City Council's chief executive and sought answers on when they can access their stock, a timeline for demolition works and clarity on insurance cover
Alastair Spink owner of Puccino's Cafe told RedFM news that he has already been forced to let half his workforce go
