People's Convention to meet tonight over failed petition handover

The petition has 15,000 signatures to boycott Irish Water.

The People's Convention are to meet tonight to decide their next course of action after the deputy Lord mayor refused to accept a petition yesterday evening calling for an end to water charges.

The group say they requested that the Lord Mayor meet them outside City hall yesterday evening ahead of a City Council meeting - but that no one arrived on the steps to meet them.

The Lord Mayor is abroad on city business and it's believed deputy mayor, Cllr Ken O’Flynn was instructed not to accept the petition.

Fianna Fáil councillors and Fine Gael Cllr John Buttimer met the group outside and said they were willing to accept the petition on behalf of the council however Diarmuid O'Cadhla of the People's Convention refused to hand it over and said the 15,000 people who signed it had essentially been snubbed by the Lord Mayor.

Speaking to RedFM News, Diarmuid O'Cadhla of the People's Convention says they will now have to decide what to do with the petition.
