Petition Mounted In Glanmire To Get Work Started On The Flood Relief Works On The Glashaboy River
The €8.5 million project has been placed on an extended timeline
The Office of Public Works has placed the scheme along with 17 others on an extended timeline of works up to 2027 with just three projects across Cork expected to be completed by the end of 2022
The €8.5m project was expected to reach construction stage by quarter three of this year and residents in Glanmire have hit out at news of the delay as they say they are living in constant fear of flooding during heavy rainfall as water levels rise on the Glashaboy River
Up to 60 homes and a number of businesses were badly damaged in Glanmire seven years ago when the river burst its banks following torrential rainfall - most of these now cannot get flood insurance.
Speaking to RedFM News Independent Cllr Ger Keohane says the people of Glanmire live under a constant flood threat and they're now taking matters into their own hands
